There is a complex of buildings on Yan’an West Road, which houses the old Navy Club, the Columbia Country Club – a popular meeting place for Americans in the 20’s and 40’s – and a mansion were located. The complex was designed by the Hungarian architect Lazlo Hudec for Sun Ke, son of dr Sun Yat-Sen built. After the end of World War II, it housed a biological institute and then stood empty for a few years before the Vanke Group rented it in 2016 and began extensive renovations.
Today there are many small restaurants, cafes and a very nice library. If you need some rest, you can relax with a book (there are also books in English).
