Fortunately, some old buildings in Shanghai have been preserved and are now available, mostly for other purposes, for the residents of the city and, of course, tourists. For example “Shanghai 1933 Old Millfun”. Between 1933 and 1960 one of the largest slaughterhouses in South-East Asia, designed by the English architect Balfours. In the building today you can find small restaurants and exclusive stores, because onlookers are many. Because the building and also the surroundings invite to take pictures. It is a bit bizarre when you walk up the ramps on which the many animals were driven through before they were slaughtered, but 1933 Old Millfun is in any case worth seeing and really a piece of Shanghai’s history.
