Nanning, a vibrant city in the heart of Guangxi, China, offers a variety of sights and experiences that delight travelers and locals alike. Standing out among these attractions is the night market, a vibrant tapestry of culture, cuisine and commerce that comes to life in spectacular fashion at midnight. We arrive at our hotel at midnight and have decided to visit the night market at short notice in the hope of seeing something.
This hope is more than fulfilled. Around midnight, the Nanning night market is transformed into a dazzling labyrinth of colorful lights and different smells.
The heart and soul of the night market is undoubtedly its culinary offerings. Food stalls line the narrow streets, each a gateway to a world of flavors unique to the Guangxi region. The variety ranges from spicy noodles and grilled skewers to sweet treats and exotic fruits. Not forgetting, of course, the grilled insects, which we didn’t try after all.
What makes the night market so special is the feeling of community and togetherness that it conveys. It’s a place where strangers become friends over a shared meal, where artisans and entrepreneurs showcase their passion and where the night is welcomed with open arms.
Unfortunately, we were only in Nanning for two days, but we ate there on both days and really enjoyed the liveliness.
